The Lineman And The Water Boy
In the fall of 2021 I was announcing the play by play of a local football game around my hometown. Both teams, in the first half, were rather evenly matched. However, as the second half started, it became apparent that one team simply had, as my father says, more “horses” to rotate into the game allowing, especially for their linemen, precious minutes of respite before returning to the field and exhausting themselves once more. The team having the smaller roster had no such luxury and it began to take its toll. The linemen would crash into those of the larger, much more rested team and as the clock ticked on, the [...]
How Much Truth?
Frederich Nietzsche once made the statement that you could tell a lot about a man's character by how much truth he is willing to tolerate. Even though he was a well known and sometimes quite insane atheist thinker he had a very deep and profound understanding of the human psyche. The only way to fully actualize who we are is by a constant pursuit of truth. The Bible speaks of this in John 8:32 where it says "the truth shall make you free". This is something that is heard often however rarely is the inevitable and logical consequence of this ever considered. The human problem it creates is that the Truth, [...]

Beyond The Pews For Life celebrates a new life – born January 12, 2022!
Please help us welcome Johnathan Jayce into the world and congratulate his mother, Jasmine! Early on January 12, 2022, Jasmine gave birth to her son and shared some of the hospital photos with us. Mom and baby are both doing well and they have even participated in the ministry's outreach on the sidewalk since his birth. God's gift of new life will continue to speak volumes as Jasmine's testimony touches those who face similar circumstances and choose the blessing of life.
The Knife and the Empty Window
On Thanksgiving Day of this year after a full day of eating and family fellowship, I decided that I was going to walk the .15 mile from my parents’ house back to my house and get ready to start our traditional family Christmas movie season. As I topped the hill and made the last 100 yards or so to my address, it was dark and quiet with a slight cool breeze blowing. I stood and looked at our large living room window which faced the road. Through my mind raced the many years as a child I had gazed into that same window. At that time of year I would see [...]
My Grandfathers Brother Used to Live Here; Reflections From the Tulley Woods
As I write this I am sitting next to a fire in what, a century ago, was a corn crib. My grandfather’s brother lived in a house that sat 75 yards east until 1946 when it burned leaving only the crib standing. Since then the old crib has functioned primarily as a getaway for boys of different ages or for the occasional hunter that needed temporary shelter from the cold. I have walked by this old cabin (as it is now called) countless times in my life. As I changed from a boy to a teenager to a man it has meant different things to me. As a boy, it was [...]
